McCrae Beach – McCrae Beach is regarded as one of Port Phillip Bay shore’s most stunning, with many safe yet uncrowded spots for an afternoon dip or to bask in the sun. The waters are tranquil and smooth due to the position of the bay along the Peninsula, so it’s probably not the best for surfing. But as for relaxation and family fun, you won’t find better anywhere.
McCrae Yacht Club – McCrae is an excellent place for a sailing adventure, and the McCrae Yacht Club is the palace to start. The club has been an important part of the community since the 1960s, hosting social activities, regattas, sailing programs, and championships at state, national and international levels.
McCrae Eastern Lighthouse – You can’t visit McCrea without taking a tour of the historic McCrae Eastern Lighthouse, one of the most awe-inspiring structures along Port Phillip Bay. In 1874, the steel edifice was made in England and shipped to McCrae in 1883 where it was erected. At 33.5 metres, the lighthouse is the largest construction on mainland Victoria, featuring holophotal, dioptric and catadioptric lens systems. The lighthouse guided sailors from Melbourne along Port Phillip Bay for many years and is now on the Victorian Historic Buildings Register.
Arthurs Seat State Park – If you’re an avid hiker and want some exercise and great photographs, head to Arthurs Seat State Park and climb to the 344-metre summit. There’s 24-hour access to the park, so for a romantic evening you can enjoy a sunset dinner.
McCrae Homestead – History buffs love to wander through the beautiful McCrae Homestead where the lives of those who lived in the house from 1851 to 1925 are chronicled. Two families lived in the homestead, the McCraes and the Burrells, both helping to develop the area into the coastal paradise visitors can enjoy today. In 1970, the National Trust bought the property from a great-great-grandsons of the McCrae family.
